Time to clean up! This Saturday, September 15 is Colorado TU Stream Cleanup Day. Alpine Anglers will take on the Big Thompson River below Estes Park. We’ll meet at the handicapped fisherman access at mile marker 72 at 9:00 A.M. There will be coffee. There will be donuts. There will be about two hours of work, and we’ll leave the Big T a nicer place to visit and fish. Many hands make light work, so come out and help! |

Alpine Anglers lightens the load for greenback recovery volunteers If the only thing standing between you and volunteering for a greenback recovery project is a 50 pound pack and 2500 feet of vertical, then help has arrived. Thanks to a grant from Colorado Trout Unlimited, Alpine Anglers is supplying pack animals to carry volunteers’ personal gear on select backcountry greenback projects. Pack animals are scheduled to transport gear up to the project site on the first day of the project and return to carry it out on the last. Thanks to Alpine Anglers Les Beery and Dallas Maurer, contributing to the greenback recovery program has gotten easier. To volunteer for a greenback project or for more information contact Austin Condon (AWCFlash@aol.com) or go to the Alpine Anglers website (www.alpineanglers.org). Be there! |

National Fly Fishing Championships coming to area Sponsored by Colorado Trout Unlimited (CTU), the National Fly Fishing Championship will take place in Colorado during the first week of October. Venues include Parvin and Dowdy Lakes, the Cache La Poudre and the Big Thompson. This event is a major fundraiser for CTU, and it is designed to increase awareness of coldwater conservation issues. In addition to gold, silver and bronze medals, participants are vying for a slot on Team USA to represent the U.S. at the World Fly Fishing Championships. (There is no prize money.) Here’s a chance to see how some of the best fly fishers in the country do it. Even better, see the action up close by volunteering to be a judge. Alpine Anglers president Dallas Maurer is the venue coordinator for the upper Poudre and one day on the Big T. Contact Dallas to volunteer (dwmcmc@msn.com) or go to the CTU web site (www.cotrout.org) for more details. Be there! |
